Although, there is not much data to support this theory, but our facial expressions have a modest impact on our emotions. This doesn’t mean you should always plaster a fake smile on your face. For beginners, you can start your mornings with a smile and see whether it works for you.
We cannot stress on this enough. Exercising is not just for your body, but it can also reduce stress, symptoms of depression and anxiety. Moreover, exercising regularly has also shown to boost self-esteem and happiness. Even a small amount of physical activity everyday can make a huge difference. It isn’t necessary that you work out at a gym. You can start with taking a walk around your block every night after dinner, sign up for yoga or start the day with a few minutes of stretching. You can also consider signing up for activities such as golf, bowling, or dancing.
Get a good night’s sleep
Studies have shown that most adults need about 7 hours of sleep every night. However, if you feel the need to take a nap during the day then it means that you’re not getting enough sleep at night. Adequate sleep is essential for good health, emotional well-being, and brain function. Getting good sleep also reduces your risk of developing chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, depression, and heart diseases. if you’re consistently struggling with sleep, talk to your doctor about ruling out conditions that may require treatment.
Make healthy food choices
Food choices have an important impact on your overall physical and mental health, both. For example, carbohydrates release serotonin or the “happy hormone”. Adding complex carbs to your diet such as whole grains, beans and vegetables will give you the serotonin boost you need. Similarly, a diet rich in protein also releases dopamine and norepinephrine. It will also give you the energy boost you need. Say no to highly processed foods and skipping meals because it will leave you feeling down.
At the end of the day being grateful can boost your mood like none other. Studies have shown that practicing gratitude can have a significant impact on how you’re feeling.
